Are you a Machiavellian Mastermind who will abuse the system to work forever in your favor? Or are you a goodie-two-shoes who follows all of the rules to a “T”? Or do you fall somewhere in-between? Let’s find out!
Sales Ethics are a tough thing to preach, so I’ll be as blunt as I can. If you are the type of person who will do what you can to get a sale, so long as it is legal (even if it may be against company policy), then you are definitely on the more Machiavellian side of the scale. This form of ethics is extremely risky to follow and can have a negative impact on you if you are caught doing something shady, even if it is fine in the eyes of the law.
Do you have somewhat of a moral compass but still enjoy working around the system? Then you actually have an ethical backbone, unlike the above mentioned Machiavellian. This means that while there are legal limitations that you must follow and company policies to adhere to, you will do both while also making a killer profit, but you will also not completely f— over your customer in the process.
Now, if you really are an ethical and moral salesperson, you would be open and honest with your customer in every regard of the sale – hell, you may even push sales away if you think your company could not meet all of your customer’s needs. While you may be a white-knight for your customer, you are a bit a nuisance of a salesperson in the eyes of most companies in a competitive market.
