Even though I am a big fan of dressing up and being unique in the office, there are limitations to that. And those limitations are basically to not dress like a clown or a fashionista. Try to avoid overly bright and loud outfits, such as a bright red blazer (unless its Derby Season) or an outfit that is just begging for attention. You should always have one piece of an outfit that is at least a little eye-popping with intrigue, but that aspect should never be the center-piece or be overbearing and sacrifice the purpose of the ensemble – getting sh*t done.

So, let’s go over what IS acceptable, now that it is Fall. Tweed is a classic go-to, as is a nice leather or denim jacket (avoid something too distressed). Overcoats are always welcome, as is the oft underused pea coat. When utilizing a scarf, please be sure it is a simple pattern (Unlike the one in the lead photo) that consists of earth tones. Let’s try to not go too wild – when in doubt, play it safe. Also, let’s be sure to put those white and tan suits away (as I am sure you all have) and let loose the sweet checkered suits of the Fall and Winter.
